The hierarchy in traffic
Instructions from authorized persons (like police) always take precedence. Then come traffic lights, and only then traffic signs or markings (like yield triangles). So if the traffic lights are working, you ignore the yield triangles.
Flashing amber lights
Sometimes you see a flashing amber light or the traffic lights are completely off. In that case, the regular priority rules, signs, or yield triangles apply again! Always be extra alert in this situation.
Free right turn
Sometimes there is a sign next to a red traffic light saying "Right turn free for (light) cyclists". This means they can run the red light, but must still yield to crossing traffic.
