What is an N-road?
An N-road is a non-motorway of national importance. They can be recognized by the yellow signs with the letter N and a number (e.g. N201). Often they are provincial roads or expressways.
Maximum speed
The speed on an N-road depends on the type of road. Is it an expressway (sign G3)? Then the limit is often 100 km/h. Is it a regular road outside built-up areas? Then the limit is usually 80 km/h.
Overtaking on the N-road
Because N-roads often have oncoming traffic on the same carriageway (only separated by a line), safe overtaking is essential. Pay attention to solid lines: you are absolutely not allowed to overtake here.
