Overtaking on the right in a traffic jam
Normally, overtaking on the right is strictly prohibited. However, when there is slow-moving traffic or a traffic jam on a multi-lane carriageway, overtaking on the right is allowed. This helps to spread the traffic jam better across the road.
Motorcyclists in the traffic jam
Motorcyclists are allowed to ride between the traffic jam, provided they do so at an appropriate speed (maximum 10 km/h faster than the traffic jam). Motorists should take this into account and preferably make room in the middle.
Hazard warning lights
If you are the last to join a sudden traffic jam, it is wise to briefly turn on your hazard warning lights to warn approaching traffic from behind. As soon as the car behind you has joined, you turn them off again.
