Maximum Speed on the Moped and Light Moped

Light moped (Blue license plate)

A light moped may drive a maximum of 25 km/h. Inside built-up areas, you basically ride on the bicycle path, unless indicated otherwise. A helmet is recently mandatory everywhere for the light moped!

Moped (Yellow license plate)

A moped or scooter with a yellow license plate is allowed to go 45 km/h. Inside built-up areas, you always ride on the roadway. Outside built-up areas, you ride on the (moped) bicycle path and you are allowed to go 40 km/h.

On the roadway: 45 km/h

As soon as you ride on the roadway as a moped rider (among the cars), you may drive a maximum of 45 km/h, just like the rest of the traffic (inside built-up areas, where 50 or 30 often applies). Pay close attention to your position on the road.
