Alcohol and Drugs in Traffic: The Limits

Novice driver

Have you had your driver's license for less than 5 years? Then you are a novice driver. A strict limit of 0.2 per mille blood alcohol content (BAC) or 88 micrograms of alcohol per liter of exhaled air applies to you. This equates to less than one glass of alcohol!

Experienced driver

For experienced drivers (license longer than 5 years), the limit is 0.5 per mille (220 micrograms). This equates to about two standard glasses of alcohol, depending on your physique and gender.

Drugs and medications

The use of drugs in traffic is always prohibited and heavily punished. For medicines, a yellow warning sticker applies on the packaging: these can affect driving ability. In that case, you are often not allowed to drive.
